TASKFORCE ZERO

Help where help matters

Recently, the flooded area of "Paiporta" and the surrounding areas were in the spotlight.

The challenge was to create a temporary infrastructure, to actively participate in the clearance work and to build a network.

WHICH AREAS OF APPLICATION?

Any humanitarian or technical assistance that I or my growing team can provide will be directed within legal and accessible limits. However, this will not be in the form of first aid, as the situation assessment and initial contact with disaster areas must be carried out by public and specialized forces.

Task Force Zero closes supply gaps and provides infrastructure reconstruction work through donations of goods, transport, repairs, and social support. Ideally, we participate in the local resource organization and connect with existing local organizations as external aid workers.

WHO AM I?

Hi, I'm Pete. I have a custom-built motorhome with a living area with sleeping accommodations in the middle, as well as a kitchen and a bathroom. The rear offers the storage space of a small truck. My vehicle has four-wheel drive, allowing me access to many areas.

My dog, Áki, always travels with me and provides much comfort and joy on site.

WHAT I DO?

Through my extensive and constantly growing network, I try to organize donations in kind and cover costs through financial support. I place the highest value on transparency. On-site, I try to lend a hand wherever two hands are needed.

Future project?

The idea of establishing a Europe-wide task force of five people with special skills has been taking shape ever since a contact in Paiporta. The goal is to create a team that has everything it takes to create locally functioning transitional structures. This includes repair skills in mechanical and installation areas, as well as social skills for organizing and integrating various local helpers to provide basic services.

Paipota DANA - What happend?

At the end of October, widespread flooding occurred in Spain. The DANA weather phenomenon caused severe damage, particularly in the regions of Valencia, Andalusia, and Murcia. The floods were caused by heavy rainfall. Enormous amounts of water fell within a short period of time, up to 422 mm (422 liters/m²) in 8 hours, triggering flash floods and mudslides and trapping numerous people in their homes or cars. More than 156 km² of land were flooded, and around 190,000 people were directly affected.

The second Paiporta mission started on 15 December 2024 and lasted 35 days.

The focus shifted to relief supplies related to children and active clearance work.

The vehicle was also converted for "Operation Weihnacht," a public Christmas celebration.

The Second Mission 15/12/24

+ "Operation Christmas"

The mission followed on from the mission of November 13, 2024. It was once again about securing supplies and clearing/cleaning buildings, as well as assisting in restoring basic necessities.

I brought donations in kind for approximately 400 children to the disaster area, and with a team, we distributed them in a targeted manner. On site, I also provided my transport vehicle and the driving service for distributing external donations.

The mission was expected to last 35 days.

"Operation Christmas"

Christmas was just around the corner, and it was not yet clear how far the water and electricity supplies could be restored by December 24, 2024. Therefore, my vehicle became the "Christmas truck" on December 24, 2024.

The following were realized:

- A Christmas light installation

- Live music with the participation of local people

- Mulled wine and gingerbread

- Children's program with small gifts

This was realized through the surplus of financial donations (as stated for children's products) and freely available funds for organizing a Christmas party for those affected and helpers.

Insights from the first mission

The first mission 11/13/24

The first mission went perfectly and far exceeded all my personal expectations. It was very important to me to be very deliberate and targeted with the donations, which meant that simply dropping them off at a collection point was not an option. On site, I was able to quickly connect with the relief workers and connected with the Basque aid organization GBGE.

The approximately 700 toys reached:

-Individual families in direct contact

-Families with children through the city administration

-Families and children in a socially disadvantaged area in the flood zone

-A temporary daycare center

-A school

My vehicle was also repeatedly refilled with various relief supplies to compensate for supply shortages and oversupplies. I also increasingly transported hygiene items, water, and food.

Afterwards, I actively participated in the clearing work in the flooded buildings and underground garages. To recover physically, I took over the logistical distribution of approximately 1 ton of toys from international donations from a collection point. This distribution was carried out in my own vehicle and was aimed at public institutions.

The search for the children

Alone into the unknown

With this short documentary, I invite you to experience the atmosphere on site and get to know the people a little. "The Search for the Children" also aims to answer the question of where the donations go and how they are used.
